Amendment to Training Period for Technician Category (RBE No. 92/2024)
Reference: ACS No. 289, dated 09.10.2024

The Railway Board has issued a revision in the training period for Technician category recruits, which is outlined in the updated para 159(3) of the Indian Railway Establishment Manual (Vol. I, 1989 edition). These changes impact the training durations based on the qualifications of direct recruits. The modifications are as follows:
1. Training Period Based on Qualifications
Act Apprentices Trained in Railway Establishments:
Recruits who have completed their apprenticeship training in Railway establishments are not required to undergo any further training as their apprenticeship experience is considered sufficient for the role.Act Apprentices Trained in Non-Railway Establishments:
For recruits who have completed their apprenticeship in non-Railway establishments, a training period of 6 months will be required to familiarize them with Railway-specific work practices and requirements.ITI Passed Candidates (Same or Related Fields):
Candidates who have completed ITI training in the same or closely related fields as per the Direct Recruitment (DR) advertisement norms will undergo 6 months of training. This period ensures that the recruits are equipped with practical knowledge specific to the Railway environment.
2. Training Period for Other Categories of Recruits
Certain exceptional categories of recruits, including those appointed on compassionate grounds or lacking certain qualifications, will have different training periods based on their academic and professional background. These categories include:
Degree/Diploma Holders in Relevant Trade:
For recruits who hold a degree or diploma in a field directly relevant to the Technician position, the training period will be 6 months. This ensures that even highly qualified recruits can familiarize themselves with the operational specifics of Railway work.Engineering Degree/Diploma Holders in Fields Other Than Relevant Trade:
Recruits who have a degree or diploma in engineering, but in a field other than the relevant trade for the Technician position, will require 12 months of training. This extended period is necessary to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed for the role in a new technical domain.Matriculants with Qualifications in Non-Relevant Trade:
If recruits have a matriculation qualification but have completed training in a trade not relevant to the Technician role, they will undergo 12 months of training. This ensures they gain the necessary skills for the specific Technician Grade-III role.Matriculation or Higher Qualifications in Non-Relevant ITI:
Recruits who have only matriculation or higher educational qualifications but have completed ITI in a trade not relevant to the Technician position will be required to undergo 24 months of training. This long period is intended to bridge the knowledge gap and equip them with the necessary skills to perform effectively in the Technician role.
