Updated Training Period for CGA Recruits
The Board’s recent instructions, as per the letter dated 09.10.2024, have introduced revised training durations for Compassionate Ground Appointees (CGA) who do not possess the minimum qualification of Act Apprenticeship or ITI in the relevant trade. The revised training periods are as follows:
- Degree/Diploma Holders in Relevant or Similar Trades: 6 months
- Engineering Degree/Diploma Holders in Non-Relevant Trades: 12 months
- Matriculation + ITI in Non-Relevant Engineering Trades: 12 months
- Matriculation or Higher Qualification + Non-Relevant ITI: 2 years
Concerns Raised by Railways
Some railway departments raised concerns that CGA recruits (with non-relevant ITI trade) appointed after 09.10.2024, and subjected to a 2-year training period, might join earlier and become senior to CGA recruits appointed before 09.10.2024, who are undergoing 3 years of training (as per RBE 166/2010).
Resolution: Adjustment in Training Period
After careful consideration, the Board has decided that CGA recruits (appointed before 09.10.2024) and subjected to the 3-year training period as per RBE 166/2010 will be categorized based on the new sub-groups. Their training period will be shortened to the minimum prescribed duration, ensuring no compromise in the course content.
Implementation and Seniority Benefit
The earlier batch of CGA recruits (under the 3-year training rule) will be allowed to join first. Subsequent batches, after completing their training as per the updated procedures, will receive the benefit of seniority and pay fixation, ensuring fairness across all appointees.
This revision ensures a streamlined training process and fairness for all CGA recruits, maintaining consistency with the updated guidelines.
